ESG ratings

DNV shares its sustainability performance in our Annual Report, following EU framework for reporting ESG (ESRS). This information is shared annually and assured by a third party. We have set Science-based targets that have been validated. In addition, many customers ask us to complete sustainability questionnaires from third parties such as the Ecovadis or CDP, or to complete their own sustainability assessments. We are not able to join all third party assessment schemes, and below you will find our rationale.

Science-based targets

To see our validated 2030 SBTi targets, please see the Science-based target dashboard. DNV has chosen not to submit a Net Zero target through Science-based targets so far. The guidelines were not ready when we needed to submit our goal, and we have chosen to focus our efforts on our emission reduction 2030 targets and our involvement in the carbon removals market.

EcoVadis

DNV has been rated as ‘Platinum’, scoring in the upper band of businesses responding to EcoVadis in 2025.

Ecovadis is a platform where companies can share their sustainability performance. DNV is comprehensively assessed each year across 21 criteria under four key themes:

  • Environment
  • Labour and Human Rights
  • Ethics
  • Sustainable Procurement

EcoVadis independently reviews our responses and supporting evidence to more than 150 questions, and provides a rating. We are reassessed annually to reflect the evolving nature of the agenda.

CDP

DNV does not currently report through CDP, although we submitted responses in 2023 and 2024. 

While we recognise CDP as an important initiative for transparency on climate-related disclosures, we have found the reporting process to be very resource-intensive, with a format that is complex and subject to frequent updates.

We instead prioritise transparent and high-quality climate reporting through our annual disclosures and recognised frameworks, where we believe the information is more accessible, consistent, and decision-useful.

We do not see the need to duplicate reporting efforts through the CDP platform as well. CDP requires our customers to pay a fee to see our responses which we provide for free in our Annual Report.
